A LITTLE ABOUT ME

I’m Kate, and I started up Fuelled Fitness to help women like me become the best versions of themselves. It has literally taken me until my 40’s to be truly ok (and I say OK as I have days where im not so happy, but that is completely normal) with my body and appreciate it for what it is and not what I felt it should be. But how did I get to this point, because believe me it has been a long journey we lots of ups and downs.

Growing up in the 90’s (age 6-16) I, like many other women was conditioned to believe that the only thing that mattered was the number on the scales and that if you were skinny then you would be happy. Well, being a tall girl (nearly 6 foot, which btw I absolutely hated) the number on the scales was never going to be the same as my 5 foot friends, however I made it my life’s mission to get that number down, in whatever the latest weight loss trend was at the time. I mean I spent so much money at weight watchers that I am pretty sure I should have earnt shares! This gave me a very unhealthy relationship with both food and exercise and led to years of disordered eating.

Fast forward a bit to my 30’s and after having my daughter I knew I needed to change my relationship with food and how I felt about myself. I never want my daughter to feel the way I felt about myself growing up, and knowing children copy their parent’s behaviour, I knew I needed to try and change mine. Don’t get me wrong changing my mindset from eat as little as possible and do as much cardio as you can, to fuel your body correctly and exercise for strength and enjoyment was not easy and took time.

So how did I end up here? A few years ago me and a few of my friends started doing workouts together in my husband’s bar, just using some mats and light dumbbells, with a YouTube video on the tv. We enjoyed it so much that it became part of our daily lives and something we made sure we made time for. This wasn’t always easy as we all have children and jobs but we decided we had to prioritise ourselves too. We referred to it as ‘friend therapy’ and it really was, it done just as much for our meatal health as it did for our physical health. As time went on we made the decision to join a local gym and from there my love for strength training began.

During this same time I had made the decision to close my home bakery business (ironic I know), which left me with a decision of what I wanted to for work going forward. I love cooking and baking and have always been interested in nutrition and how the science of the body works. Knowing how much changing my relationship with food and fitness has impacted my life for the better, I decided I wanted to help others do the same and so signed up for personal training level 3 and nutrition level 4 course and have spent the last few years learning everything I can so that I can use this knowledge to help my client's change their lives.

This has all led me to right now, where I have set up Fuelled Fitness, offering personal training and nutrition coaching. I understand how intimidating it is to walk into a gym for the first time (or the first time in years) and to head over to the weights area when you aren’t confident being there. That is why I decided to create a private gym in my own home where you can come and work out with no one watching you (well other than me). A place where you can learn in your own time without the fear of judgement using all the equipment you would find in a gym. My vision is to provide an environment where you feel relaxed and comfortable and know that you have someone there supporting you at all times. Change is hard but I do believe together we can make it happen.

Me in my 20’s and 30’s disliked a lot about my body but now I feel happier and healthier in my 40’s. Yes I work out as I want to look a certain way but also to gain strength so that when I reach my 60’s and beyond I can run around with any future grandchildren and live an independent life for as long as I am lucky enough to do so.
